Report of September 22, 2005

Greetings directly from the mission field and the mega campaign in Faisalabad, Pakistan!

Last night our first event was held at the "Panto Ground" here in Faisalabad. To our surprise tens of thousands of people were in attendance on the FIRST evening. Remember this is Pakistan; a nation where mega campaigns like this were unthinkable only a very few years ago. The misery of the people is very big here in Pakistan. But wherever misery is big, God's power proves itself in an even more powerful way. The Holy Spirit moved mightily over the gathering people and we watched with joy as the anointing broke the yoke of bondage and sickness in the lives of thousands of people! – Hallelujah!

The climax of our campaign is of course, the altar call. I can report you that this city will never be the same again, because so many of the people came forward to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The harvest is big even now and it is only the first evening. We are eager for the evenings to come as we will surely experience even bigger things!

I will try and report to you in one of the next days again per email. Please pray for me and my mission team here in Pakistan. The pastors of the city have asked me to send you their warmest regards and thank you for all your loving support.

Dear mission partners,

I have heard of many more signs and wonders that have taken place last night, many more than we were able survey at the time. Among them; a woman had placed her inanimate baby on the platform, entrusting God to bring it back to life. God rewards such a faith and we are trying to trace what has happened with this child!

After an overwhelming start to our mega campaign last night we had to cancel today’s event due to rain. While it only rained for an hour, it rained so much that it flooded the campaign site. The water stands 20'' deep inside the campaign grounds and it is the dry season here in Pakistan! Some of the technical equipment was flooded as was parts of the platform. May I direct my urgent request to you to pray in faith along with us that the ongoing mega campaign will continue without any disturbance? We are considering holding tomorrow's campaign at a different location. We are in need of the special goodwill of the local authorities and of the owner of the eligible compound... but with God's grace all things are possible!

We firmly trust God to change the apparent defeat of this evening into a far bigger victory and that in the days to come; we will be seeing breakthroughs that are by far bigger than Pakistan has ever seen. When God's fire is burning no demon can extinguish it, not even with the most powerful rainfall.

Jesus is Lord – also here in Faisalabad!

New campaign site in Medina Town!

With God all things are possible!

Praise be to the Lord! Our campaign team has worked all night to take all equipment to the new campaign ground. Although parts of our speaker equipment were under water, none of it was damaged! The same is true of the rented lighting installation. Praise and thanks to God for the unusual blessings also in this area!

Many of you have written to me and promised your prayer support. I thank you so much for your prayers!

The most significant aspect regarding the move to the new location is that we are now in a completely different part of Faisalabad: "Medina Town". This area is named after the city of Medina, the second important pilgrimage city of Muslim faith, the place where Muhammad had died. In addition to the prominent mosques located here, it also is the center of extremist quaran schools.

You can probably imagine my joy this evening when I was able to welcome more non-Christians than ever at a mega evangelization event in Faisalabad. Despite this involuntary "new start" of this campaign, tens of thousands have come, more or less the same number of people as on the first evening. When I arrived at the site, several thousand people – among them many adherents of other religions – greeted me loudly with "hallelujah" and rejoiced at the relocation of the campaign to "their" quarter!

My enthusiasm knows no limits anymore, an emotion I share with those attending the campaign here in Faisalabad! They were standing shoulder to shoulder tonight here on this new campaign ground and it was with great joy and excitement that they invited Jesus Christ into their hearts. "Hallelujah!" has become a new fashion word here!

What we can see here is very unusual. I think I may finally be able to talk of a revival among the people here, a revival that was triggered by our mega event. Were we not required to relocate due to rain, we would have never known such a dramatic breakthrough. On Thursday, a bomb placed by religious extremists in the city of Lahore killed 6 people and severely injured 27. But here in Faisalabad, we are experiencing a total peace right among unbelievers, an honorable reception and genuine gratefulness.

The truth of the Gospel, preached in Jesus' authority and in the leading and presence of the Holy Spirit is like a magnet whose attraction hardly anybody can or wants to escape! Praise be to the Lord! It is a free choice to accept Jesus Christ. But who wouldn’t want Jesus to come into their heart after seeing how He heals the sick – even those whose doctors had left them without hope – blesses complete families and turns distress into joy? This evening, there were so many healing testimonies that we could only hear part of them before we had closed the event at midnight!

Campaigns like this are the greatest joy for me, because there is no greater privilege for me than to preach the Gospel of salvation to the sinners, in a crystal clear way and understandable for everybody. For those listening, it is not simply the start of a "new period of life" but "new life" itself! As a mission partner, you have contributed to it. Just as you are sharing the burden of evangelizing with me, I want to share the joy of its success with you.

I simply have to write to you again today to share my joy with you about this enormous victory that we have seen here in Pakistan!

About two and a half hours ago, I closed our mega campaign in Medina Town here in Faisalabad with a final festive celebration. It was the crowning moment of a mega campaign that will be remembered in Pakistan's history. I have to admit that I'm leaving Pakistan with both one cheerful eye and also a tearful one. What we were allowed to see these days is simply overwhelming and you never want to end such a breakthrough. The pastors of the city of Faisalabad have promised me very firmly to do their utmost to take good care of the fruit from this mega campaign. This is not an empty promise; as we can see the enduring fruits from our previous campaigns as the many new believers have always been wonderfully integrated into existing churches!

This morning, our Pakistani team and I went to have a look at the big hockey stadium (around 120,000 seats) here in Medina Town. We intend to use it in our next mega campaign as every other campaign ground was bursting at the seams! Tonight, we were not able to do justice to the rush of people and unfortunately many did not find space. The size of our campaigns is only limited by the area of the available ground – this cannot go on like this. Therefore, we want to have faith for further finances in order to provide sequels of our campaigns in the biggest stadiums here in Pakistan.

It is impossible for me to convey the sheer magnitude of victory of this year's Pakistan mega campaign. Even though ten thousands upon ten thousands have heard the Word of God and seen His power, it is yet the destiny of every single person that touches my heart personally; the man that has been paralyzed up to some moments ago because he was born with a crippled leg and can now walk for the very first time of his life, the many, many children whose lives were marked by illnesses like typhoid or tuberculosis and were healed, thus giving glory to God now, limbs growing into their natural length, the blind receiving eye sight and the deaf suddenly able to hear! And don’t forget the many unbelievers that came to this event; seeing how their family members get healed and then they themselves joyfully receive Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior! What proof of Jesus' love for these people!

We praise the Lord for His protection that we have experienced here in Pakistan. As I have already written, we are right in the middle of "Medina Town", surrounded by quaran schools and mosques! Many thought that a campaign in such a part of town was impossible, but the flooding of our "first" location didn't give us any other choice. Again and again I heard shots being fired these past days during our events. Indeed, they were shots of joy. In Pakistan it is normal to shoot into the air for joy, as in festive occasions like weddings. Here, you find more machine guns than fridges!

Each time I go out onto the platform on an evening like this, to preach of God's love and Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, I am also always thinking of my mission partners who are backing me in prayer and giving. I would love so much taking you with me for you to see for yourselves the tears of joy in the faces of those being reached by your sacrifice. On behalf of those people and even more, on behalf of Jesus Christ, the Lord of the harvest, I thank you from all of my heart. My cameraman, Brother Jonathan, is doing an outstanding job documenting the campaign so that we may broadcast parts of the campaign in our new TV program.
