Shouts of "Hallelujah & Praise the Lord" resounded from the streets and shops in Kwamikrom, one of the villages in the town of Ho, the capital city of the Volta region in the country of Ghana. Exclamations of joy like these are new here. Kwamikrom was once the centre of witchcraft for the whole region. Now the town has been shaken by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The people here are mostly ordinary fishermen and peasant farmers who worshipped the river, the sun, the moon and their self-carved wooden idols. Like much of the culture in this part of the world, the witches in the town made the people pay for their magic and sorcery. Certainly to them, this crusade was a thorn in their flesh, for they knew that "In The Name of Jesus!" we would deny their power. "I have experienced bigger crusades than this one, but never one which had such a sweeping change of its fruit." It was definitely a divine time for Jesus To The World Mission to conduct a crusade in this place. While the printed posters and flyers could only be understood by the few who knew how to read and write, Volta Radio broadcast daily invitations throughout the country and into the neighboring country of Togo. Five days before the first meeting started, people began to gather on the crusade grounds. Many had traveled great distances to bring their sick for healing prayer. One of the local pastors commented that "an African evangelist rarely ever comes to this town, let alone one from abroad, because they are too afraid of witchcraft & sorcery!" Throughout the crusade, pastors and spiritual leaders proclaimed "The foundations of the enemy have been shaken!"

Jesus Christ, The Healer!

In great expectation, one of the 30 co-operating pastors opened the first evening of the crusade. It actually had appeared to me as if he had opened the door for a mighty wave of blessing and the power of the Holy Spirit that swept the town and region from that moment on. It was a great privilege preaching the Word of God to the people of Kwamikrom. Many of them had never heard anything about Jesus Christ before, but they were open minded, listened carefully and were quickly taken with it. My messages were simple, but urgent.

On the first evening, men and women gave testimony of their healings which began the "rain of signs and wonders." For example; Mrs. Esi Abotsi, who suffered from blindness and had been unable to walk without the use of crutches, demonstrated how she used to limp about before, but can now "walk and see." An excited Elizabeth Sabako who had not been able to walk, would not let anyone stop her from showing everyone that now "she can even dance." Night after night we witnessed many similar but countless miracles. Mr. Afi Enyonam was dumb and deaf, but while I was praying for the sick, God suddenly opened his ears and loosened his tongue so that in front of the whole multitude he was able to speak into the microphone. Another highlight was 17 year old Cynthia Dogbe who had been blind since birth and now can see for the first time in her life! I raised my fingers for a test and under the applause of the visitors of the crusade she counted – 5,2,1,3. When I asked her what color my tie was, she replied "I have never seen colors before, so I don't know what it is named."

Jesus Christ, The Deliverer!

Even far more overwhelming were the deliverances that took place. I had certainly already seen a lot, but this surpassed everything else by far. The people deeply entangled in witchcraft brought their witchcraft objects, placed them on the platform and we watched as God set them free. The tremendous changes that came to the lives of these people simply cannot be put into words. The testimony of a former idolatress, who described how she experienced Jesus Christ delivering her, moved me and thousands of others to tears of joy. During the second day of the crusade, the head witch in the region died. To what extent this had anything to do with the crusade and why it happened I do not know. But it is a fact that the locals connected it with the words of the evening before, "For some of you this is the last chance to receive Jesus Christ!", and so the people received the altar call with great reverence. Each evening I was allowed to lead people directly from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God by a prayer of life delivering a new church of enthusiastic Christians that want to go out to win others for Jesus.

Several hundred of them wanted to be anointed for the ministry to preach Jesus themselves. In our final meeting I explained to them, "If one candle lights another, and that one again lights other candles, after that you cannot discern which flame lighted which one. It is the same flames – the same anointing – the same Holy Spirit. You are going to preach like I do!" The result was pure power from heaven visiting the people! How deeply the people feel called, can be expressed by the example of one man who gave me as a present, a hand-carved wooden figure. It shows a man with an opened book in his hand. He said, "That is me, I go now and preach Jesus!"
